拼贴一词从法语中派生而来，运用这种创作手段可以按照字面意义或者具有象征性地，把任意几个片断剪切与粘贴在一起而形成一部艺术作品。在电子声学音乐中，一些极其简单的声音元素或者是短小的音乐片段都可以成为一部拼贴作品的材料。
Derived from the French word, collage concerns artwork in which fragments of any sort are literally or figuratively cut and pasted together. In electroacoustic music this may concern extremely brief elements of sound material up to small-scale musical fragments
