Any algorithmic or formal process that involves the translation of data is a mapping process.
EARS 2:
this term refers to the linking of variables. For example, the linking of a MIDI control Interface to control parameters within the programme. OR in synthesis the linking of note velocity with amplitude of simulated transient noise (thus emulating the realistic physical effect of solidly striking a vibrating object).
