人 often say a picture is worth a thousand 词 but sometimes a 声波 can be worth a thousand pictures

One 声波 is worth a thousand pictures
With the simple addition of 声 it is 可能 to suggest an 整体 场景 situation or 环境

声波 is everywhere in the 媒体(媒介) and in 艺术 For 例如

声波 效果 in the 戏剧 – to establish the 场景
声波 设计 in 电影 – to give a voice to new 对象 and
Soundscapes in 博物馆 – to reproduce the atmosphere of a 历史 位置 or event

All of these 用 声 创造性 and the 声 are large contributors to the 总 经验 try to 图像 a sci-fi 电影 without any 声波 design! It just wouldn’t 作品

{EXAMPLE PIECE}

Truth-Like Sounds
When 声 are 录制 they are separated from the 对象 or 过程 that caused them However because of the contextual way in which 人 often 听 to 声 see 模式 of 聆 it is 可能 to take a 声波 from one situation and place it into a completely different one while still 制作 人 believe that it belongs there!

An 例如 of this would be the 声波 of Dinosaurs in films and 博物馆

Activity
What Do Dinosaurs 声波 Like?

Dinosaurs died out a long 时间 before there were any humans to 听 to them So no-one knows what they actually 声/听起来 like All of the 声 that we ‘know’ as dinosaurs were actually 创作 by 人 working in 声波 设计

声 Tell Us Where We Are
As we discovered in 空间 环境 we’re able to identify 地点 底/基于 upon the character of their 声波 With this 知识 we can begin to 创作 the 印象 of different 环境 For 例如 adding 混响 to a 声波 to make it 声波 like it is in a large 空间

We can think about 声 操作 in layers like a stage set in the 戏剧 With 声 in the foreground the mid-ground and the 背景

If we add different soundscapes into the 背景 we can 变形 the apparent 语义(上下文) of the 场景 It is also 可能 to move 对象 around in the 场景 to bring them forwards and backwards and to change the 关系 between the 对象

[Using unexpected 声 can make a 声景观(声景) seem alien or magical]

听 to this example
Can you 听 声 moving forwards / backwards as the 声景观(声景) evolves?

声波 设置 the Scene
The 声 that we 听 can tell us Where we are What is happening When the 行为 is taking place which 历史 era – Past or Present

听 to this example
Can you identify Where What and When just from 聆 to the sounds?

Radiophonics
声 can be used in a simply descriptive way but can also be used to 创作 a 感觉 of atmosphere and to lend to the world and story of the 作品 声 are 不 just used to provide a backdrop a 感觉 of place or represent 特定 对象 within the 场景 but to actively contribute to the drama and story

Fact – Radiophonics
What Is a Radiophonic Work? – A 声底 创造力 作品 made specifically for 无线电 广播

Radiophonic 作品 do 不 simply present actors voices reading text with a few 伴奏 ‘realistic’ 声波 效果 They 探索 the inner emotions and tensions within the drama by using 虛/抽象 声 and 质地(纹理、织体) 创作 a deep and evocative 声景观(声景) which carries the 听众 on an emotional 旅程 in 声波
They 用 创造力 声波 practice to extend 传统 无线电 drama and 记录 形式 by 制作 用 of using 虛/抽象 声

The 术语 was first used by 皮埃尔 舍费尔 in his ‘Essai Radiophoniques’ and was later used by the by the BBC to 描述 their famous ‘BBC Radiophonic Workshop’ which 创作 声波 效果 for ‘Dr Who’ and many other 程序

The BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop was founded to 创作 ‘special sounds’ for 无线电 productions and 电视 程序 Some of the composers 底/基于 in this 工作室 took this one step further and 创作 their own radiophonic 作品 They began to make 用 of a wide 范围(排列) of 声 to 创作 dramatic 紧张 and mood

One of these composers was Delia Derbyshire photograph above

Dreams excerpt
This is an 例如 of a non-narrative radiophonic 作品 The 作品 is more about atmosphere and mood than about telling a story
