北京国际电子音乐节具有鲜明的主题作为每届活动的理念追求与审美定位。从2005年到2015年的每届音乐节的主题依次为【MIX】，【语言】，【声音·奥林匹克】， 【亚洲】，【交互】，【多元】，【虚拟世界】，【跨界】，【创新】，【声音·中国】与【幻听】，以体现电子音乐/计算机音乐新的发展趋势与探索追求。

Akousma is a source of inspiration: from the ancient echoes of Akousma from the Hellenic philosopher to the exploration of post-war French forerunners of concrete music and Musique Acousmatique, musicians have been inspired and waked by it.
Akousma is a cornerstone: the striving and hardworking of generations of composers in the last seven decades is now the solid platform on which now we are standing.
Akousma is a landmark: we have kept being retrospective to its aesthetic value, its historical importance, and its stunning impetus to the future.
Akousma is a revelation: it not only illuminates the unknown space of our imagination, but also bring face to face human and the human reception of sound and related aesthetics.
